Kunanbay Hajji Mosque, located in Karkaralinsk, Karaganda region, is a religious building carved from wood. Construction of the mosque began in 1851 and was completed in 1951. Later, a madrasah, a dormitory for students and a house for mullahs were built near the mosque.


Kunanbay Hajji Uskenbayuli (1804-1886), the father of the great poet Abai, was a bi, wrestler and senior sultan. One of the most memorable and legendary works in Kunanbay's biography is the construction of a mosque in Karkaralinsk and the construction of a house for Muslims who went on pilgrimage to Mecca.The mosque of Kunanbay Uskenbayev in Karkaralinsk is a two-storey wooden building. Unfortunately, the mosque of Kunanbay Uskenbayev did not remained in its original state. The mosque was demolished in 1920, the building was used by the Soviet authorities as a school, then transferred to warehouses, and even later became vacant. In the 1980s, the Kunanbay Mosque was completely restored.
