Ulytau covers the southeast of the Turgai Trough and the northern part of Betpak-Dala. It is not only the highest point of western Saryarka, but also its "heart" and the "center of the world."
It was here that the Kazakhs raised their sultans on white felt and proclaimed them khans. Jochi Khan, Alasha Khan and Tokhtamysh Khan, as well as the warrior Edige, are buried here. Asan Kaigy called this land Zheruiyk, a promised land where the Kazakh people could live well.
