This archaeological complex lies in the southeastern part of the Chu-Ili Mountains in Almaty Region, 170 km northwest of Almaty.

The Tamgaly complex includes more than 5,000 petroglyphs from different historical periods, as well as settlements, burial grounds and sacrificial sites. Its most valuable part is the petroglyphs of the Middle Bronze Age.

Researchers particularly highlight the high aesthetic value and spiritual impact of the Tamgaly petroglyphs.
