Zharkent Mosque Architectural and Art Complex

The complex, located in the center of Zharkent, Almaty region, is an architectural monument with a boat roof, tower, portal, built in the late XIX century, decorated with various patterns. The mosque complex has a portal (main gate), a domed house for mosque employees and a madrasah.

The complex, located in the center of Zharkent, Almaty region, is an architectural monument with a boat roof, tower, portal, built in the late XIX century, decorated with various patterns.

The mosque complex has a portal (main gate), a domed house for mosque employees and a madrasah. The general contractor of the construction was the second clay merchant Uali Ahun Yuldashov, and the chief architect was the Chinese master Hong Pik (Hong Fi), whom the locals called Mukan. The complex was built at the expense of local rich people. Representatives of different nationalities took part in the construction of the mosque. It was built without any nails. On the walls and sides of the roof of the magnificent painted building there are more than 1,500 different paintings, ancient inscriptions in Arabic and Persian. On the wall in front of the pulpit, where the head of the main mosque sits, there is an olive-shaped "tree of life" based on the legends of the Indian people.
