The Baiterek monument in the center of Astana is a symbol of the independent Kazakh state and of its people's revival and renewal. The structure rises to 97 meters, a reference to 1997, the year the new capital was proclaimed.

The main idea behind the monument is the World Tree. The "Bata" (Blessing) composition at the top holds the blessings of the leaders of world religions who gathered in Astana in 2003.
