The mosque is located in Karabutak village of Kargaly district of Aktobe region. The mosque was originally built on two floors (a large prayer hall on the first floor, the entrance, and another room). On the second floor there are madrassas for children and books of the Koran. The builder of the mosque is unknown.
Hazrat Nurpeis Baigarauly is a well-known cleric, public figure, a scholar. Along with religious literacy, he was fluent in Arabic and Persian.
Hazrat Nurpeis was born in Karatobe, Tomarotkel locality of Shyngyrlau district, located in current West Kazakhstan. This famous scientist lived in the period of 1817 - 1880. As a young man, he took lessons from a village mullah, and later went to the Kogiltash madrasah in Bukhara to study for 6 years. After that he studied in Sham in Arabia for 4 years, and returned home very literate. After arriving in the country, he went to St. Petersburg, where he was received by the tsar. Russian Tsar advised Nurpeis to go along the Ural, Elek, Or, and Kargaly rivers and build several mosques there in order to spread and propagate the Muslim religion.
Hazrat Nurpeis will have had a royal decree “All conditions should be created for the construction of a mosque”. Nurpeis, who settled in the village of Karabutak in Kargaly, began construction of a mosque. Due to negotiations with people the construction equipment was brought from Bashkortostan. The mosque is located on the other side of the river Karabutak. In 1905, Safa Ishan built a new mosque in the center of the village, as it was difficult for the villagers to go to the mosque at certain times of the year. Safa Ishan is the eldest son of Nurpeis hazrat.
