It is located on the island of Tuyemoynak in Semey, East Kazakhstan region.Semipalatinsk nuclear test site is one of the most tragic places in the world. The total capacity of nuclear charges tested in the air and on the ground at the Semipalatinsk test site was 2.5 thousand times greater than the capacity of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. As a result of 456 surface and underground nuclear tests in the area of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, a large amount of radioactive materials was released into the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. Not only the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, but also large areas adjacent to it were exposed to radioactive contamination. As a result, many living organisms and populations in the area were affected. About 500 thousand people living in the radiation zone near Semipalatinsk suffered from this test. The monument “Stronger than Death” is important for the Kazakh people, because it depicts the victims of nuclear tests in 1949-1963. On August 28, 1991, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev Nazarbayev issued a decree to close the Semipalatinsk landfill. This was an important event in the history of our country. The memorial to the landfill symbolizes peace, the absence of war, prosperity and unity, the terrible tragedy of the past.
