The mausoleum of Shortanbay is located 6 km south-west of Aksu Ayuly aul of Shet district. Shortanbay Kanayuli (1818-1881) is a Tokpe poet who sang the truth of his time, one of the greatest representatives of the famous period in Kazakh literature called “Zar Zaman”.

He devoted his entire conscious life and poetic talent to singing about the plight of the his people under colonial oppression, about its future, to feel the diseases of the times he witnessed, and to take part in their ruthless denunciation. The poet met the needs of not only a certain environment or region, but the whole nation, and was a mourner of many.The first publisher of the poet's poems was academician V.Radlov. Shortanbay's collection of poems was published in Kazan, and during the Soviet era his works were published in various collections. “Shortanbay's childhood cry” (October, 1888-1916), “Zar zaman”, “Zaman akyr” in the collections of VVRadlov, "Erden batyrga aytkany" published in Y. Altynsarin's chrestomathy (1879). Thoughts and aitys in the Soviet era were published in S. Seifullin's “Old Literature Versions” (1931), S. Mukanov, K. Bekhozhin's “Reader of Kazakh Literature” (1942), “Aitys” (1965). According to the legend, at the time of Shortanbay Zhyrau's death, he told the good people of the country: “Don't put me in my bed, the time will come when I will degrade the country. It is better that not many people know where I am. “According to the plan, the mausoleum is round and domed. The inside of the dome is fixed with wooden poles. A wooden pole also supports the entrance door. Inside the cell, in the corners, there are arched cavities”.
