The medieval city of Taraz was the largest political, cultural, trade and administrative center in the history of Kazakhstan. In its 2100-year history, the city has changed its name several times: Daloos, Dalose, Taraz, Yangi-Taraz, Aulie Ata, Mirzoyan, Zhambyl, Taraz.The city of Taraz is founded in 568 in Byzantine records. Then the Chinese monk Xuan Jiang, who came to the city in 630, described that "merchants from different countries live in Taraz." And in the IX century. Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, a medieval mathematician and geographer who lived in the first half of the twentieth century, wrote in Kitab Surat al-Ard: "Taraz is a city of merchants." Abu Qasim ibn Haukal, an Arab traveler, wrote, "Taraz is a place where Muslim Turks trade, and no Muslim will go further, because whoever crosses its borders will find a tent (settlement) of Karluks." Another prominent Arab geographer, Muhammad ibn Ahmed al-Maqdisi, described Taraz as "a large fortified city with many gardens, densely populated, with a pit, four gates, and a rabad." Mahmud Kashgari in his work "Diwani lugat-at-turk" wrote: "Talas is a city known as Taraz. They are two: one of them is the Great Talas, which is large, and the other is on the Islamic border - Kumi Talas. Taraz is home to several khaganates established in the region in the early Middle Ages: Western Turkic, Karakhan, etc. It is the political capital of the Soviet Union, a city of civilization and culture along the Great Silk Road, a center of trade and crafts, science and education.
