Monument “Morning of Independence” was opened in 2006, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the December event. The monument is located at the junction of Zheltoksan and Satpayev streets in Almaty. The monument consists of 3 parts.

Monument “Morning of Independence” was opened in 2006, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the December event. The monument is located at the junction of Zheltoksan and Satpayev streets in Almaty.

The monument consists of 3 parts. The splited-center double columns describe past and future conflicts, signifying that the state has gained freedom and independence. The image of a handkerchief wrapped around his right hand and a symbolic bird striving forward, symbolizes the nation's call for unity and solidarity. The monument is dedicated to the Kazakh youth, who died for independence, future of nation, destiny of generations.

In December 1986, the Kazakh youth took to the streets in protest of the colonial, governor-administrative system of the Soviet government. Young people wanted justice, equality and independence. This event is a significant event in the history of the Kazakh people striving for freedom and independence.
