The Mausoleum of Rabiya Sultan Begim

The mausoleum of Rabiya Sultan Begim is a monument of medieval architecture (XV century). South-east of the mausoleum of Hodja Ahmed Yassavi, 60 m. It was specially built for Rabiya Sultan Beg, the granddaughter of Amir Temir, the daughter of Ulugbek, the wife of Abulkhair Khan, the mother of the famous khans Kokenshi and Suyunish.

The mausoleum of Rabiya Sultan Begim is a monument of medieval architecture (XV century). South-east of the mausoleum of Hodja Ahmed Yassavi, 60 m. It was specially built for Rabiya Sultan Beg, the granddaughter of Amir Temir, the daughter of Ulugbek, the wife of Abulkhair Khan, the mother of the famous khans Kokenshi and Suyunish. In the south-eastern part of the mausoleum there is an entrance to the underground cemetery. The cemetery is plastered and painted. There are wooden coffins covered with leather. In the coffin of Rabia Sultan Beg there is a line: “This is the son of the mighty Amir Temir Koregen, the daughter of the mighty, great Sultan Ulugbek Guragan, who rests in peace.Rabia Sultan Begim lived about 1430–1495. She grew up in Samarkand and received a comprehensive education. In 1451, Abu Said, the grandson of Amir Temir, sent Ulugbek's daughter Rabiya Sultan Begim for military assistance to Abulkhair Khan during the conquest of Samarkand. After living with Abulkhair for 16 years and dying in 1468, Abulkhair had two sons, Suyunish and Kishkene. Rabia was one of the few Muslim women to take part in public affairs during the reign of Sultan Begim. She is the mother of the famous nomadic khans. In 1495-1510, by order of her son Koshkinshi khan, a mausoleum was built on her burial place.
