The mausoleum is located 7 km from Kostanay, the center of Kostanay region, on the right bank of the river Tobol. The tombstone was erected in 1960. In 1991, in honor of the 150th anniversary of I. Altynsarin, a 1.5-hectare mausoleum was built on the site of the old monument. The mausoleum has a portal and a dome. Ibrai (real name - Ibrahim) Altynsarin (1841-1889) - an outstanding educator, writer, ethnographer, folklorist, public figure. Ibrai Altynsarin left a deep mark on the history of the Kazakh Enlightenment and the formation of the national school. He wrote a textbook "Kazakh anthology", a didactic textbook "Primary textbook for teaching Russian to Kazakhs."I. Altynsarin was the first in our literature to lay the foundation of the prose genre. In his speeches, he called on the young disciples to be moral, kind and brotherly, to work honestly and justly, to be polite and patient, to be attentive and to acquire knowledge freely. From 1879 to 1883, he opened new schools in four districts of Turgai region - Turgai, Irgiz, Troitsk, Aktobe. He became a full member of the Russian Geographical Society in Orenburg.
