The church is located in Shymkent, the center of Turkestan region. Its foundation was laid in 1912 and completed in 1914 by the design of the junior architect of the construction department of the Syrdarya region I.A. Markevich, engineers N.I. Botvinkin and R.P. Kochar. The project itself, its architectural and artistic part, will be implemented in a short period of time at a high artistic level. Several project drawings that have survived to our time are proof of that. I.A.Markevich sends the project to the headquarters of the Engineering Committee in St. Petersburg for approval. Originally, it was a rectangular structure with a semicircular altar hill (apse) in the east and a wide roof (entrance) in the east. The original design of the small church and gallery, which connected the small church and the church tower with the cathedral building, was not built, as the church tower was built later. The cathedral in Shymkent was designed in the second half of the XIX century - like other Orthodox monasteries of the early XX century, so the details of its appearance used the architecture of the ancient church of the XVII century and reworked by I.A.Markevich. Currently, the Regional State Puppet Theater is located in the cathedral building.
